An Historic Estate

by SMC

bedroom
Given the scale of this estate, security was extremely important.

The initial design brief for this project was to update the client’s family home of 20 years with integrated, modern, connected technology. The equipment itself needed to be hidden as much as possible or to be discreetly coordinated with the interior and exterior decor. The existing wiring infrastructure was to be reused wherever possible to reduce the risk of damage to the specialized Venetian plaster wall finishes throughout the property.

The client appreciates high-quality audio and wanted to incorporate this without a dedicated cinema room, which wouldn’t fit comfortably with the aesthetics of this heritage property. SMC, therefore, designed a discreet, full-blown media room in the main living room.

SMC installed a drop-down projection screen concealed in an oak ceiling beam, directly in front of a large south facing window. Due to the size of the projector, SMC created a custom vertical mirror mount configuration, projecting via a hole incorporated subtly into the oak paneling. The front channel speakers and subwoofers are covered with acoustic fabric to match the plastered walls, while the in-ceiling speakers are painted to match the oak finish. The client is astonished by the quality achieved and delighted that the system is virtually invisible when not in use.

Given the scale of this estate, security was extremely important. Hanwha 4K cameras, PIRs, and IP security lighting provide contiguous estate-wide coverage. The external devices were color-matched to ensure subtle coordination with the traditional aesthetics. SMC upgraded all alarm devices. The intruder alarm keypads were integrated with Crestron to allow estate-wide control from each touch panel while avoiding wall clutter.
