As the name implies, this is a vacation home – and since guests are as likely to use the technology as the homeowners themselves, user controls had to be completely intuitive. Savant controls did the trick.
Wicked Smart Homes tells us about the automated events here: “A Lutron QS lighting control system controls all exterior sunset and sunrise lighting scenes and Lutron ultra-quiet motorized roller shades follow the sun throughout the day. Intelligent Visualint cameras maintain a secure perimeter around the home with smart analytics that can keep an eye on the property and alert the homeowner of any potential threats. Camera alerts turn on exterior lighting in their zones automatically (if lights aren’t already on). In the event of a nighttime security alarm, interior lighting comes on and exterior lighting will alert first responders as well as surrounding neighbors of the potential emergency. Interior temperature alerts go out when the HVAC system detects temperatures outside of the programmed range and shades are programmed to lower automatically to offset the ambient heat coming into the home.”
There are scenes which can be triggered at the touch of a button, as well – for example, triggering a TV lift raises a display and tunes the set immediately to a favorite channel. Speaking of televisions, this home boasts all-weather Seura TVs that are mounted on custom columns to give each display the illusion that it’s floating in space. Care was taken with the outdoor audio, too: “Speakers are anchored in cement buried beneath the ground to stay in place in the event of hurricane-force winds or heavy flooding that could occur on the coast.” CEDIA’s judges took special note of the excellent outdoor integration solutions here, saying that the home “feels like a resort.”
